Welcome to the stud farm Haras de la Lizonne

The history of the stud farm Haras de la Lizonne began in 1961 in Morocco where its creator, Jean Deleau, acquired his nine first fillies at the farm of Meknes. Of these, five were daughters of the stallion Agres (by Sumeyr), who had been born in France and exported to Morocco.

All the future stud mares were carefully chosen among the jealously conserved old lines imported from Syria. They were gathered at Meknes and systematically bred with Buhran (Morafic and Mouna) and with a son of Nazeer (el Sud el Aaly by Lateefa), these two stallions belonging to His Majesty Mohamed V, King of Morocco.

This rigorous genetics policy was applied until 1974 in Morocco. When Jean Deleau returned to France with about fifty horses, he moved them to La Lizonne, a property he had acquired in Dordogne.

The search for a stallion meeting the criteria of authenticity and nobility in France was unsuccessful until the arrival of Fawzan****, chosen to further secure the genetics pool.

More than 300 foals were born in 40 years. They represent between 6 and 7 generations.

As for results, the years 1980 to 1990 saw many horses rewarded in Show competitions. Later, considering this discipline to have become too "artificial", Jean Deleau turned toward Endurance, the only discipline where he felt the Arab horse could retrieve its sense of space and conquest.

So, of the horses coming from this stud farm, many stand out: Taroudant** (by Horr***), Oumzil Tobiha*** (Masan and Tobiha****), and Timadit**** (Raqqas and Jelalall****).

In 2000 Jean Deleau passed the torch on to Sophie and Dominique Balthasar, both very conscious of the responsibility inherent in the conservation of this unique gene pool.

They decided to continue to valorise the products through Endurance. In 2007 alone, 14 products of Rustem*** (Fawzan**** and Naima** by Fata**) started in all levels of Endurance.

On March 18, 2004, a major page of the history of the stud farm Haras de la Lizonne was turned with the disappearance of Jean Deleau. The last five mares that he had kept were now returned to Haras de la Lizonne.

In the spring of 2003, Sophie and Dominique Balthasar added a young Pure Syrian stallion of three years, Menjad Maram Al Baida to their stable. He is of a very old blood line, which was impossible to find in Europe. He is used with success on thebest mares at La Lizonne, but he is also available to mares of amateur breeders of authenticity. His products are very promising.

Today, the stud farm Haras de la Lizonne, which moved to Mareuil sur Belle (Dordogne) in March 2000, continues to cultivate this "pure core" of the Arab race. In the same concern for authenticity, the bloodlines of Denouste and Morafics is present in all horses coming out of La Lizonne.

We follow "our heart and our conscience" like Jean Deleau taught us. Our horses, who maybe one day will be yours, are the result of much thought and long considerations as to the breeding, conscious as we are of the unique genetics in our care and our privileged relations with the horses.
